420 on 1-20

The Donald Trump administration could begin under a cloud of marijuana smoke thanks to a Washington DC weed advocate group’s plan to spark up 4,200 joints near to the scene of the new president’s inauguration speech.

On January 20th, at exactly 4 minutes and 20 seconds into DT’s inaugural speech, 4200 people will light up at the National Mall to make a point, thanks to the DCMJ.

The DCMJ is a Cannabis coalition founded three years ago by Adam Eidinger because a group of people in DC, were tired of “outdated” cannabis laws in the District of Columbia. (You can read a brief summary of these laws in my blog, or get the full write up here:

Donald Trump’s exact stance on the legal status of weed was not clearly outlined during his campaign and the President Elect’s pick for attorney general, Senator Jeff Sessions, is on record saying the government needs to send a message “that good people don’t smoke marijuana.” This statement forced me out of my politically neutral blog zone to rant about that in another blog ,

For the DCMJ and others [like me], this statement is far from just not okay. I’m ecstatic that they have organized this non-violent protest to make their point and I fully support their stance.

The DCMJ has named the demonstration “Trump 420” in reference to the now global celebration which occurs each year on April 20th, to ask the new Trump administration to consider updating the Marijuana laws in DC , as well as asking to legalize Marijuana at the federal level. The demonstration will gather at the west side of Dupont Circle, in DC for “coffee, and tea and a parade down to the National Mall.” Along the way the DCMJ will pass out 4200 joints. Adam Eidinger states that “The main message is, it’s time to legalize cannabis at the federal level,” he continued, “I think it’s a good protest. If someone wants to do it, they are risking arrest, but it’s a protest and you know what, the National Mall is a place for protest.”

Although in DC, handing out 4200 joints isn’t illegal, smoking in a public place is illegal. My guess is that 4200 people won’t be arrested but Mr. Eidinger has to let protesters know that there is that possibility.

For me, I  only wish I could be there as it’s a brilliant form of protest and frankly, we are all going to need a fatty once DT and his admin are in office.
