It’s come to my attention that there is a movement that I’ve apparently been a part of for quite some time. It’s name “Microdosing.” What is Microdosing you might ask? Well, it’s pretty much what the name suggests – experimenting with marijuana in small doses.
When you microdose, you take in small amounts of cannabis in order to reap the medical benefits of THC while avoiding its psychoactive effects that can interfere with your day to day activities. The first time I became aware of this was over 15 years ago when my trainer took me for a trail run. I am a fitness enthusiast and play several sports. I am very active, but am NOT a runner. He insisted I was in good enough shape to knock out a 10 mile run – I laughed but said I’d try. When we got to the reservation he said let’s take a hit and start. A hit – but we are running – that can’t be good. But he said just take one or two hits and we’ll start out nice and easy. Well, he was right. At first I noticed that I was not uptight like I usually am before a run, next I noticed that all the usual negative thoughts disappeared, my back and knee aches were nonexistent and as all of these things shed away it was easy to fall into rhythmn behind him (oh, and watching his perfect athletic ass go up and down also helped!) But Ray was right – and with only two very short breaks, I happily completed the 10 mile trail run!
This was revolutionary to me – I never thought about getting high before a workout, it seemed counterintuitive. Remembering that day I do occasionally microdose before a workout especially if I’m feeling stressed or want to push myself harder and it really does help!
I’ve visited many dispensaries where I encounter people just looking for weed with the highest THC levels. As I've said before, just because something has a high THC percentage, doesn’t make it the best weed for you and your body.
With so many choices, it’s a good idea to experiment with different strains through microdosing. Whether you’re using weed recreationally or medicinally, the best high is the one that makes you feel good, mind, body and soul.
